2026 Conference Theme: Word-Centered Worship

"LET THE WORD OF CHRIST DWELL IN YOU RICHLY IN ALL WISDOM; TEACHING AND ADMONISHING ONE ANOTHER IN PSALMS AND HYMNS AND SPIRITUAL SONGS, SINGING WITH GRACE IN YOUR HEARTS TO THE LORD." COLOSSIANS 3:16

The Southland Worship Conference brought together pastors, church musicians, and worship leaders with a singular focus: recovering and strengthening Word-centered worship in the life of the church. Built upon Colossians 3:16—“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly”—the conference consistently emphasized that true Christian worship is shaped not by preference, personality, or cultural pressure, but by the authority and sufficiency of Scripture.

From the opening service to the final session, every element of the conference reflected this conviction. Congregational singing, Scripture readings, choral presentations, and preaching were intentionally ordered to demonstrate how God’s Word governs both the content and purpose of worship. The repeated singing of the conference hymn, “Our Great Heritage,” reinforced the central message that Scripture is not only foundational to belief, but formative to worship and discipleship.

Conference preaching addressed worship from both theological and pastoral angles. Speakers highlighted the apostle Paul’s instruction that congregational singing flows from the indwelling Word and the filling of the Spirit, reminding attendees that worship is designed to both edify the church and exalt the Lord. Worship was presented not as an emotional exercise or artistic performance, but as a means through which God teaches, admonishes, and shapes His people through truth-filled song.

Several sessions challenged prevailing assumptions about worship by calling attention to the posture of the worshiper. Attendees were urged to prioritize listening over speaking, reverence over impulse, and obedience over expression. Messages warned against worship that is driven by sentimentality or novelty and instead called churches to recover weightiness, fear of God, and doctrinal clarity in their services.
Alongside the main sessions, breakout seminars provided practical instruction for implementing Word-centered worship in local churches. Topics ranged from service planning, choral leadership, and composition to music education, discernment, and musician health. Panel discussions fostered thoughtful dialogue, reinforcing that faithful worship requires both deep conviction and careful practice.

A recurring emphasis throughout the conference was the formative power of congregational singing. Speakers highlighted how singing Scripture-rich hymns and psalms disciples believers, shapes affections, unifies the church, and combats worldly influences. Attendees were repeatedly encouraged to sing often, sing heartily, and teach future generations to sing with understanding.

The conference concluded with a forward-looking reminder that Word-centered worship is not a passing emphasis, but a lasting commitment. By rooting worship in Scripture—historically, theologically, and practically—The Worship Conference issued a clear call to churches: let the Word of Christ dwell richly, and allow it to govern the church’s song, service, and life together.

In a worship landscape often shaped by immediacy and innovation, the conference stood as a clear affirmation that the church’s greatest strength remains unchanged--the enduring, life-giving Word of God at the center of christian worship.
